Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday delivered a strong message on party discipline and organisational integrity while addressing a felicitation programme for newly appointed BJP Tripura Pradesh President Abhishek Debroy at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala.
Speaking before party leaders, workers and supporters, Dr. Saha stressed that strengthening the Bharatiya Janata Party from the booth level requires strict discipline, unwavering commitment to the party’s ideology, and close engagement with the people.
The Chief Minister warned that anti-party remarks on social media, indiscipline, and activities detrimental to the organisation would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
“Anti-party comments on social media or any form of indiscipline and activities against the party will not be encouraged in any way. Necessary action will be taken in coordination between the party and the administration against such activities,” Dr. Saha said.
In one of the strongest remarks of the programme, the Chief Minister declared that he would not allow “cancer” to spread within the party organisation.
“We will not allow cancer to spread within the party. If necessary, chemotherapy will also be administered,” he said, indicating a zero-tolerance approach towards elements allegedly working against the interests of the party from within.
Dr. Saha further stated that individuals who had joined the party or remained associated with it for personal gain rather than ideological commitment would be identified and action would be taken against them. He also issued a stern warning to mafias and corrupt elements, reiterating the government's commitment to clean governance and organisational discipline.
Expressing confidence in the leadership of newly appointed State BJP President Abhishek Debroy, the Chief Minister said the party would enter a new phase of growth and public service under his stewardship.
“I firmly believe that under the leadership of Shri Abhishek Debroy, the BJP organisation in Tripura will become stronger with new direction, renewed energy and fresh determination, reaching new heights in public service,” he remarked.
The felicitation programme, organised by the BJP Tripura Pradesh unit, was attended by several senior leaders, including outgoing state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, central observer Rajdeep Roy, newly appointed state president Abhishek Debroy, ministers, legislators, party office-bearers and workers.
Addressing the gathering, party leaders emphasised that the BJP is not a platform for personal enrichment but a movement dedicated to public service and ideological commitment. They assured workers that every dedicated party member would receive due respect and recognition within the organisation.
The appointment of Abhishek Debroy as the new BJP Tripura Pradesh President has generated considerable interest within political circles. A legislator from the Matabari Assembly constituency, Debroy has previously handled key organisational responsibilities in Gomati district and is regarded as a grassroots leader with significant experience in strengthening the party structure.
Political observers believe that the BJP's decision to appoint a relatively younger organisational leader reflects the party's strategy to prepare for upcoming political challenges, particularly the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, which are expected to be a major political contest in the state.
During his speech, Dr. Saha also targeted the opposition Left Front, alleging that it had ruled the state for 35 years through violence and intimidation.
“For 35 years, the Left Front remained in power by attacking, torturing and suppressing people. Today, the same people ask what has been achieved in eight years,” he said, defending the achievements of the BJP-led government in Tripura.
The event marked the formal beginning of Abhishek Debroy’s tenure as BJP’s state president and highlighted the party leadership’s focus on organisational discipline, grassroots expansion, and preparation for future electoral battles.
