The Tripura government has put in place elaborate security and administrative arrangements for the conduct of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026, scheduled to be held across the state on June 21. At the same time, the government has announced a series of significant initiatives aimed at strengthening higher education infrastructure in the state.

Addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat on Friday, Ravel Hemendra Kumar, Secretary of the Higher Education Department, said that the medical entrance examination will be conducted at 10 centres across Tripura, including nine centres in West Tripura district and one centre in Dhalai district.

According to official estimates, around 4,500 candidates from West Tripura district and approximately 200 candidates from Dhalai district are expected to appear for the examination.

To ensure the integrity and smooth conduct of the examination, all centres will operate under a robust two-tier security system supported by comprehensive CCTV surveillance.

Kumar said that extensive arrangements have been made in coordination with the National Testing Agency (NTA), district administrations, Tripura Police, National Informatics Centre (NIC), and other concerned agencies.

Security measures include:

Deployment of police personnel at all examination centres.

Multi-stage frisking of candidates before entry.

Continuous CCTV surveillance.

Monitoring by NTA-appointed observers and flying squads.

Installation of signal jammers to prevent electronic malpractice.

Secure transportation, storage, and handling of confidential examination materials.

The Higher Education Secretary informed that nodal officers have been appointed for every examination centre to facilitate coordination among district authorities, police officials, centre superintendents, NIC personnel, and NTA representatives.

Candidates have been advised to reach their respective centres well before the reporting time mentioned on their admit cards and strictly follow all guidelines issued by the NTA. Guardians have also been requested to cooperate with the administration and avoid crowding near examination venues.

Reaffirming the government's commitment, Kumar said Tripura remains determined to maintain the sanctity, transparency, and fairness of the NEET-UG 2026 examination process.

Alongside preparations for NEET-UG, the Higher Education Department unveiled several important developments aimed at expanding educational opportunities and upgrading institutional infrastructure in Tripura.

Kumar announced that the Government Women's Degree College at Nalchar will commence academic operations from the 2026-27 academic session, providing greater access to higher education for female students in the region.

He further stated that a new Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) programme in Computer Science will be introduced at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), Kunjaban, reflecting the growing demand for technology-oriented education and skilled manpower.

In another major development, the state government has issued Gazette Notifications for the proposed upgradation of the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) into the Tripura Government Technical University and the Government Women's College, Agartala, into the Tripura Government Women's University.

The proposed upgradation is expected to significantly strengthen higher education, research, technical education, and women's education in the state while creating new academic and professional opportunities for students.

The announcements underscore the Tripura government's broader strategy of improving educational infrastructure, expanding access to quality higher education, and ensuring transparent conduct of competitive examinations.

With enhanced security arrangements for NEET-UG and ambitious plans for institutional expansion, the state is positioning itself to meet the growing educational aspirations of its youth while maintaining high standards of academic governance and examination integrity.
