Mata Tripura Sundari Open University Launches Orientation Programme for Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Internship

In a significant initiative aimed at promoting experiential learning and research-based education, Mata Tripura Sundari Open University (MTSOU) organized an Orientation Programme for students of Rabindranath Thakur Mahavidyalaya enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Internship Programme for the academic session 2026–27. The programme was held at the Conference Hall of the University campus at Hapania, Agartala.The day-long orientation programme was designed to familiarize student interns with the objectives, methodology, expectations, and academic requirements of the internship programme. It also aimed to strengthen participants’ research capabilities, digital competencies, academic writing skills, and communication abilities, which are essential for the successful completion of internship assignments and future professional development.The programme commenced with an inaugural session attended by university officials, faculty members, and student participants. Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor of MTSOU underscored the growing importance of experiential learning, research orientation, and skill-based education in preparing students for academic excellence and professional success. He encouraged the interns to take full advantage of the opportunity to engage in meaningful research and community-based learning activities.The Registrar and other senior university officials also interacted with the students, highlighting the value of interdisciplinary learning and urging them to utilize the internship programme as a platform for developing practical knowledge and problem-solving abilities.
A series of technical sessions formed the core of the orientation programme. Dr. Janata Sadhan Jamatia conducted a comprehensive session on Research Methodology, introducing students to various research approaches, research design frameworks, data collection methods, and research ethics. The session emphasized the importance of scientific inquiry and ethical conduct in academic research.Subsequently, Dr. Lalhundika Darlong led an engaging session on Academic Writing and Digital Research Skills, focusing on APA 7th Edition referencing standards, plagiarism awareness, citation practices, utilization of digital libraries, and access to academic databases and scholarly resources. Students were introduced to best practices in academic writing and information retrieval.
Following the lunch break, Mrs. Rupa Jamatia facilitated a practical hands-on session on Digital Skills, where participants received training on Microsoft Word formatting techniques, reference management tools, AI-enabled academic applications, Google Forms, and basic Microsoft Excel functionalities. The session aimed to enhance students’ digital literacy and technological readiness for research activities.
Another important session was conducted by Dr. Marconi Debbarma on Internship Report Writing and Field Approaches. He provided detailed guidance on report structure, literature review preparation, field-based research methodologies, data collection techniques, documentation procedures, and submission requirements. The session helped students understand the practical aspects of conducting and presenting research.Dr. Pradip Molsom later conducted an interactive session on Soft Skills Development, emphasizing the significance of effective communication, presentation techniques, interpersonal skills, and professional conduct. Students actively participated in discussions and exercises designed to build confidence and improve their professional competencies.The programme concluded with discipline-wise interaction sessions, where students engaged directly with faculty members to discuss potential research themes and identify internship topics aligned with their academic interests and career aspirations. These interactions provided valuable guidance in shaping their internship projects and research directions.The orientation programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members alike. Interactive discussions, practical demonstrations, and expert-led sessions offered participants valuable exposure to contemporary research practices, digital tools, academic writing standards, and field-based learning methodologies.University authorities reaffirmed MTSOU’s commitment to providing continuous academic support and mentorship throughout the internship period. They emphasized that the internship programme is intended not only to enhance students’ academic knowledge but also to foster innovation, critical thinking, research culture, and community engagement.The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the formal beginning of the internship journey for the participating students and setting the stage for a productive and enriching learning experience.
