The “Janjati Gaurav Utsav” held in Agartala witnessed a noticeable absence of common tribal people from different parts of Tripura. Instead, the programme was attended mainly by a section of officers and employees of the Tribal Welfare Department along with tribal girl students from Agartala.
Tribal welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma and Governor Indra Sena Nallu Reddy were present at the event.
The limited participation of ordinary indigenous people at a programme meant to celebrate tribal pride and heritage drew attention during the function.
Inaugurating the programme at Pragya Bhavan, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu said the state government has undertaken several effective measures to ensure that government services reach tribal-dominated remote regions of Tripura.
He stated that administrative outreach camps are being organized in distant villages to provide essential public services directly to people, including healthcare facilities, issuance of certificates and access to various welfare schemes.
The Governor emphasized that the government is working to bridge the gap between administration and people living in inaccessible tribal habitations. He added that such initiatives are aimed at ensuring inclusive development and extending the benefits of governance to marginalized sections of society.
Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma was also present during the inaugural session and highlighted the importance of preserving tribal identity, culture and traditions while ensuring socio-economic advancement of indigenous communities.
“Janjati Gaurav Utsav” is a special observance dedicated to honouring the history, rich heritage, traditions and contributions of tribal communities toward the nation’s development. The event is aimed at promoting awareness about indigenous culture and accelerating empowerment and welfare initiatives among tribal populations.
The programme also focused on creating awareness regarding government welfare schemes, easy access to caste and tribal certificates, healthcare support and other developmental services intended for backward and tribal communities.
However, despite the official emphasis on tribal empowerment and outreach, the low presence of common tribal citizens at the event raised questions over grassroots mobilization and the extent of public participation in the state-level celebration.
