In a significant administrative reshuffle within the Tripura government’s Public Works Department (PWD), senior engineer Rajib Majumder has been transferred from the charge of Chief Engineer of PWD (Roads & Buildings). The move comes amid growing allegations of administrative failure, irregularities, and corruption linked to several works under the department.
According to an official notification issued by the General Administration (Personnel & Training) Department on May 22, 2026, Rajib Majumder, a TES Grade-II officer who was holding the full charge of Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B), has now been transferred and posted as Chief Engineer of PWD (DWS). Simultaneously, Anup Kr. Das, who was serving as Chief Engineer of Drinking Water & Sanitation (DWS), has been given the charge of Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B).
The development has triggered intense discussions in administrative and political circles, as the Roads & Buildings wing of PWD is one of the most crucial departments handling major infrastructure projects across the state. Allegations regarding delays in project execution, poor quality of construction, cost escalations, and irregularities in tender-related matters had reportedly been mounting for quite some time.
However, state public works departments one of the dynamic engineer Rajib Majumder has strongly denied that his transfer is linked to any failure or corruption allegations. Speaking on the issue, he reportedly described the move as a normal administrative reshuffle and rejected claims that he had been removed from the post due to any controversy or dissatisfaction within the government.
Officials in the administration have also maintained silence over the reasons behind the sudden reshuffle, though the timing of the order has fueled speculation. Political observers believe the transfer may have wider implications for the functioning of the PWD, especially at a time when the state government is emphasizing infrastructure expansion and speedy implementation of development projects.
The official notification stated that the transfers were made in the interest of public service and would take effect immediately.
