Tripura experienced unusually cool weather conditions on Thursday as continuous rainfall and strong moisture incursion across the northeastern region brought temperatures significantly below normal in several parts of the state. According to the latest weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre, Agartala, both day and night temperatures remained lower than seasonal averages, providing major relief from the usual pre-monsoon heat.

The IMD report stated that the highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at Kailashahar at only 26.2 degrees Celsius, which was 6.1 degrees below the normal temperature for this period. The temperature showed a marginal increase of 0.2 degrees compared to the previous day. Simultaneously, Kailashahar also registered the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 22.0 degrees Celsius, remaining 2.3 degrees below normal.

Meteorologists described the prevailing weather pattern as relatively uncommon for late May, a period generally marked by high humidity and intense heat across Tripura. Experts attributed the cooler conditions to active atmospheric systems combined with continuous moisture flow into the northeastern states ahead of the advancing monsoon.

Alongside the drop in temperature, several districts witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours. According to IMD rainfall data, Teliamura recorded the highest rainfall in the state with 49.5 mm precipitation, followed by Agartala Airport and Lembucherra with 48 mm each. Budhjongnagar received 43 mm rainfall, while Taidu recorded 42.4 mm and Gandachherra 40.5 mm. Significant rainfall was also reported from Khowai, Ashapara, DM Office Agartala, Eden Lodge, Secretariat area and several other locations.

In contrast, a few areas recorded minimal rainfall. Gokulpur and Chhailengta reported no rainfall, while KVK Dhalai received only 2.5 mm precipitation during the period.

The widespread rainfall and cloudy weather substantially reduced daytime temperatures across the state and created pleasant conditions for residents after several weeks of humid weather. Many areas experienced overcast skies, intermittent showers and cooler winds throughout the day.

Weather experts indicated that rainfall activity may continue over the coming days as monsoon conditions gradually strengthen over the northeastern region. The IMD has advised people to remain alert for possible heavy rainfall spells, waterlogging in low-lying areas and temporary disruptions in transportation due to continuous rain activities.
