In a major administrative and security-related development, senior IPS officer Princee Rani has received orders to join as Inspector General (IG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier. Her appointment has drawn considerable attention in administrative circles, particularly because she is the wife of senior IAS officer Prashant Kumar Goyal of the Tripura cadre.

According to official and administrative sources, Princee Rani, a 2005-batch IPS officer of the Tripura cadre, has been assigned the responsibility of heading the strategically important BSF Tripura Frontier. The order for her joining has come shortly after her husband, Prashant Kumar Goyal, returned to Tripura following completion of his central deputation.

Prashant Kumar Goyal is presently serving as Secretary of the Public Works Department (excluding DWS) and the Finance Department (excluding Small Savings, GI & IF) in the Tripura government. His return to the state administration from central deputation had already generated discussions within bureaucratic circles, and now the posting of Princee Rani in Tripura has added a new dimension to those discussions.

Princee Rani is known as an experienced and efficient police officer with a strong background in administration and internal security. Before joining the BSF through deputation, she served in several important positions both in Tripura and at the national level.

She earlier worked as Inspector General (Administration) of Tripura Police and also served as DIG (Traffic) in the state. Subsequently, she was posted in the National Security Guard (NSG), where she held the rank of Inspector General. During her distinguished career, she was also honoured with the Medal for Meritorious Service for her contributions to policing and national security.

Sources said her experience in Tripura’s policing system and her familiarity with the state’s border-related challenges are expected to play a significant role in strengthening coordination between the BSF and state security agencies.

The BSF Tripura Frontier is considered highly sensitive and strategically important because Tripura shares an extensive international border with Bangladesh. The frontier regularly deals with issues related to border management, smuggling prevention, infiltration control, and coordination with civil and police authorities.

Meanwhile, the transfer and posting have also sparked curiosity because outgoing IG Alok Kumar Chakravarty had taken charge only last year and had not completed even a full tenure in the state. Though discussions are continuing in administrative and political circles, no official explanation has yet been provided regarding the sudden change in leadership.

With Princee Rani’s appointment, Tripura is once again witnessing the return of a senior officer couple to the state administration, a development many believe could enhance coordination between civil administration and security agencies in dealing with both governance and border management challenges.
