Stressing the importance of productive credit utilisation and entrepreneurship-led employment generation, M. Nagaraju has urged loan beneficiaries across Tripura to utilise sanctioned funds appropriately and ensure that loan accounts do not turn into Non-Performing Assets (NPAs).

Addressing a financial outreach and development programme at Rajarshi Auditorium in Udaipur today, the Secretary of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, Government of India, has said that beneficiaries receiving financial assistance under different government and banking schemes have to establish viable economic activities and maintain financial discipline.

He has observed that rising self-employment and enterprise creation have become important pathways to address unemployment challenges in Tripura. According to him, establishment of individual business units and local entrepreneurship has strengthened the potential for employment generation and economic development in the state.

Highlighting the broader role of financial institutions, M. Nagaraju has emphasised that banks have needed to undertake skill development and entrepreneurship development initiatives under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. He has stated that improving entrepreneurial capabilities among youth and beneficiaries has remained essential for sustaining businesses and reducing credit defaults.

The DFS Secretary has also requested the District Magistrate and Collector of Gomati District to maximise utilisation of opportunities and institutional support available through Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) for expanding local enterprise and livelihood opportunities.

Earlier in the day, the programme has begun with the inauguration of a cluster development branch at Udaipur under SIDBI before the main outreach event. Senior banking officials and dignitaries have participated in the programme.

The formal session at Rajarshi Hall has commenced with ceremonial lamp lighting followed by welcome remarks delivered by M. Paramasivam. An address has also been delivered by Rama Mohan Rao Amara.

One of the major highlights of the programme has been the distribution of sanction letters to selected beneficiaries covering 4,577 bank accounts with total sanctions amounting to Rs.105.40 crore. Financial assistance has been extended across multiple sectors including retail loans, MUDRA, KCC for agriculture and fisheries, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), MSMEs, PMEGP, PMSVANidhi and PM Vishwakarma schemes.

Development support backed by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has also formed part of the event. Grants worth Rs.161.84 lakh have been allocated for livelihood enhancement of 34 Reang tribal beneficiaries through a tribal development project, while Rs.34.16 lakh has been planned for scientific pig farming through Bagma Agri Producer Company benefiting 70 farmers.

The programme has reflected the Government of India’s continued focus on expanding institutional finance, promoting entrepreneurship and strengthening inclusive growth across Tripura.
