Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma on Tuesday said that a total of four Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) had been sent to the central government seeking funds for climate change mitigation projects.Speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of a workshop at Bamboo and Cane Development Institute, Agartala, the Minister said, “The Central government doesn’t release money if they couldn’t be convinced with a foolproof project proposal. A total of four project proposals related to mass-scale plantation for climate change mitigation had been placed before the central government. The central government releases funds based on the approval of project reports. A couple of more DPRs are being prepared with unique proposals.”The Minister also addressed a gathering of University and College students at BCDI where he emphasized on the significance of bamboo.“The entire indigenous society of Tripura can’t imagine their food platter without bamboo. For climate change mitigation as well, bamboo plays a vital role. Bamboo absorbs 35 percent more carbon-di-oxide and releases 30 percent more oxygen in the environment. So mass scale plantation of bamboo will help us to reduce the impact of greenhouse gases in the environment,” Debbarma who also happens to be the Minister of Science and Technology Department told the gathering. He also mentioned that the recent floods forced everyone to ponder concrete steps to combat the climate crisis.
