One killed, another injured in lightning strike in Tripura

A 33-year-old man was killed and another person sustained injuries in a lightning strike during rain at Narayanpur under West Tripura districts Sripally area here on Friday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Subhash Sarkar, a resident of Narayanpur Sripally.

According to local sources, Sarkar and another individual, identified as Ajit Malakar, were working in farmland in the afternoon when it started raining heavily. The duo took shelter under a nearby shed to protect themselves from the downpour.

Officials said lightning struck the shed, leaving both of them critically injured.

Local residents rushed to the spot and shifted the injured individuals to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Sarkar brought dead.

Malakar is currently undergoing medical treatment at the hospital, police said, adding that further details are awaited.
