Power supply service affected in Badharghat area amidst allegations of dereliction duty by two junior engineers

Erratic power supply in different parts of the state marked by frequent power cuts and protracted hours of load-shedding has been a problem over the past many years with no respite in sight . But in spite of having sufficient generation power supply disruption caused by rainstorms and poor maintenance of transmission lines continue to affect services to the people this year also after the arrival of the monsoon season, as in the past.

Apart from other parts of the state, the problem seems to be acute in the sprawling Badharghat area of southern Agartala where the service is maintained by electrical sub-division-III located in Bardowali. Sources said that lack of response to call for service by the two junior engineers posted in the office, namely, Amit Datta and Bhusan Das worsens the problem. “It is very difficult to have any help or service from the junior engineers who work at the field level, specially Amit Datta unless money or bribe is given; there are many poor and lower middle class families who are unable to secure service by offering bribes to Amit Datta and they suffer for a long time without power”, sources said.

Sources said that the TSECL division-III is manned by two senior mangers Dibyendu Saha , in charge of outdoor technical work and Bandana Jamatya, in charge office. While Bandana Jamatya is quite popular with common consumers because of her sympathetic approach to customers, Dibyendu Saha is earning a bad name because his writ does not run on the two junior engineers at the field level as they do not abide by his directives. Sources said that between the two, Amit Datta is the more disobedient and he does not carry out any work unless consumers pay him underhand money in addition to government fees for any maintenance or repairing work including replacement of poles near houses or repairing and replacement of transformers. The anger among people with the working style and demands for bribes of two engineers, specially Amit Datta has been building and people are planning to take up the issue with the TSECL MD seeking his transfer or action against him, sources said.
