Tripura Govt Cancels Summer Vacation for Colleges, Institutions to Remain Open for Academic Activities

In a significant decision taken in the interest of students, the Higher Education Department of the Tripura Government has withdrawn the previously announced 26-day summer vacation for all General Degree Colleges, Professional Colleges and Technical Institutes under its control.
According to an official notification issued on May 21, 2026, the summer vacation scheduled from May 25, 2026 to June 18, 2026 has been cancelled for the current academic year.
The notification stated that colleges and institutions will remain open during this period to carry out important academic and administrative activities. These include the admission process for the 2026-27 academic session, conduct of even semester examinations and other essential administrative works.
The Higher Education Department clarified that since colleges will function during the vacation period, faculty members and staff attending duties during this time will be granted Earned Leave (EL) proportionately based on their attendance. A maximum of 26 days of Earned Leave may be provided accordingly.
Officials said the arrangement will remain applicable only for the current academic year.
The notification was issued with the approval of the competent authority and signed digitally by Animesh Debbarma, Additional Secretary and Director of the Education (Higher) Department, Government of Tripura.
