The Tripura Health Department has initiated measures to strengthen treatment and healthcare services for HIV/AIDS patients across the state, officials said on Monday.
A review meeting was held at the state secretariat to assess ongoing programmes and future plans related to HIV/AIDS care and treatment facilities.
The meeting was chaired by Health Secretary Kiran Gitte and attended by senior officials of the Health Department, National Health Mission and other health institutions.
Officials said the department aims to ensure proper treatment facilities for HIV/AIDS patients at district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals and block-level health institutions across the state.
During the meeting, Gitte said healthcare services at district hospitals, First Referral Units and Community Health Centres have improved significantly in recent years. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to further expand services for HIV-positive patients.
Officials said the state government would provide additional funds for HIV/AIDS-related programmes apart from assistance received from the Union Health Ministry.
The meeting also discussed opening more Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) and Facility Integrated ART (FIART) centres in different healthcare institutions to strengthen patient care services.
Director of Health Services Dr Debasree Debbarma also stressed the need to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services for HIV/AIDS patients in the state.
Senior doctors and officials, including representatives of the Tripura State AIDS Control Society and district-level health authorities, attended the meeting.
