In a major austerity initiative aimed at reducing government expenditure and conserving fuel, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has introduced a new work schedule for its employees, combining physical office attendance with work-from-home arrangements.
According to an official memorandum issued by the Office of the Chief Executive Officer, TTAADC, all employees will now attend office physically for three days a week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, while work on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be carried out from home. The order will come into effect from May 16, 2026 and will remain in force until further notification.
The memorandum stated that the decision was taken in line with the recent appeal of the Hon’ble Prime Minister urging citizens and institutions to conserve fuel and adopt work-from-home practices wherever feasible. The TTAADC authority observed that the continuous rise in energy, petrol and diesel prices has necessitated expenditure-cutting measures within the administration.
Under the new arrangement, employees working from home must remain available through telephone and electronic communication for official duties and urgent matters whenever required. The order also makes it clear that no employee will be allowed to leave station without prior permission or intimation to the competent authority.
At the same time, the Council has decided to hire and use the maximum possible number of electric vehicles for transportation purposes in cases of necessity as part of its fuel conservation strategy.
However, the memorandum clarified that the new instructions will not apply to offices and employees engaged in essential and emergency services.
The order was issued with the approval of the competent authority vide U.O. No. 47/ADC/CEM/2026 dated May 14, 2026. The memorandum was digitally signed by Chief Executive Officer Raval Hamendra Kumar of TTAADC, Khumulwng.
The move is being viewed as one of the first major administrative cost-cutting and fuel-saving initiatives undertaken by the TTAADC in response to increasing operational expenses and the broader national call for energy conservation.
