Thousands of daily rail passengers across Tripura continue to face immense hardship because of insufficient train coaches, unhygienic conditions and lack of proper maintenance in both trains and railway stations. Regular commuters have expressed serious concern over the worsening condition of railway services in the state, alleging that despite growing passenger pressure, there has been little visible effort from railway authorities to improve the overall travel environment.

Passengers travelling in local and short-distance trains complain that the number of coaches attached to trains is far below the actual requirement. As a result, compartments remain overcrowded throughout the day, particularly during office hours and peak travel periods. Due to excessive crowding, many passengers are forced to stand for long hours in congested coaches where movement becomes almost impossible. In many cases, the overcrowded compartments become suffocating, creating severe discomfort for elderly passengers, women and children.

One of the major grievances raised by passengers is the unbearable foul smell coming from toilets and unclean compartments. Travellers allege that train coaches are rarely cleaned properly, while toilets often remain in unusable condition during journeys. Passengers standing near the toilets suffer the most because of the unbearable stench and unhygienic surroundings. According to commuters, the situation has become so poor that travelling in local trains has turned into a daily ordeal.

The condition of railway stations across Tripura has also come under criticism. Many passengers claim that several stations remain dirty and poorly maintained, with garbage, unhygienic waiting areas and inadequate sanitation facilities causing inconvenience to the public. Commuters alleged that there is a serious lack of monitoring and supervision by railway authorities regarding cleanliness and passenger facilities.

Passengers from different parts of the state said that despite a significant increase in railway dependence after the expansion of rail connectivity in Tripura, infrastructure development has not kept pace with passenger demand. Daily commuters have urged the railway administration to immediately increase the number of coaches in local trains, ensure regular cleaning of compartments and toilets, and improve sanitation at railway stations.

Citizens and rail users have appealed to the railway authorities and the Northeast Frontier Railway to take urgent steps for improving passenger amenities, maintaining hygiene standards and strengthening railway services in the state. They believe that unless immediate action is taken, the suffering of thousands of daily passengers in Tripura will continue to grow further in the coming days.
