A serious political clash erupted in Tripura’s Bishalgarh subdivision after alleged miscreants brutally attacked two Left leaders late on Monday night, leaving one of them critically injured. The incident has triggered sharp political reactions and heightened tension across the locality.
According to sources, CPI(M) leader Mosharaf Hossain and SFI Bishalgarh divisional committee secretary Himadri Sekhar Ghosh were returning home on a motorcycle after attending a social invitation at Bishalgarh’s Karai Mura area. When they reached near the iron bridge at Ragunathpur under Bishalgarh, a group of assailants allegedly blocked their path and launched a violent attack.
The attackers reportedly used sticks, iron rods, and even a pistol during the assault. Witnesses and local residents claimed that the assailants mercilessly beat the two leaders after throwing them to the ground. During the attack, one of the accused allegedly placed a pistol on Mosharaf Hossain’s head and threatened to kill him.
Amid the chaos, Himadri Sekhar Ghosh managed to escape from the spot. However, Mosharaf Hossain reportedly fell on the road while trying to flee and was severely assaulted by the attackers. At one point, the assailants allegedly assumed him to be dead and fled the scene.
Local residents later found Mosharaf lying in a pool of blood beside the road. He was first taken to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital in critical condition and later referred to TMC Hospital in Hapania due to the seriousness of his injuries. Hospital sources said he suffered severe head injuries and one of his hands was fractured.
Himadri Sekhar Ghosh also sustained injuries in the attack and was admitted for treatment.
Following the incident, several CPI(M) leaders and workers rushed to Hospital during the night. Among those who visited the injured leaders was senior CPI(M) leader and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, who strongly condemned the attack and spoke with the victims.
