International pineapple exhibition in Delhi at state’s initiative in June

The state government has taken an initiative to sponsor and organize an international exhibition on Tripura’s special ‘Queen variety’ of pineapple in Delhi on June 27 in order to expand the scope for export of indigenous pineapple in the international market. This will be organized for the first time by the state government and , specially the department of horticulture .

Official sources said that since the BJP government came to power in Tripura in the year 2018 three products of the state ,‘Risa’ ( tribal attire item), ‘Pera’(condensed sweet offered to Mother Goddess Tripureshwari) of Udaipur and the ‘Queen variety’of pineapple have received GI tag . This has made it easier for the products to be marketed and exported. Sources said that representatives of various embassies and high commissions in Delhi will be invited to the exhibition so that they can have a taste of the fruit and recommend export to their respective countries.

Since the ‘Queen variety’pineapples have already received GI tag , it will be easy to export them and the exhibition to be held in Delhi will also familiarize the foreign dignitaries with the quality of the product . Sources said that already the export of ‘Queen variety’ of pineapple has started in the countries of middle east and Europe and the exhibition slated to come off in Delhi will expectedly give a further boost to the export business , earning the country lot of foreign exchanges.
