Young girl arrested with ‘Ganja’consignment, nabbed by railway police

The involvement of girls and women in ‘Ganja’(cannabis) peddling has been increasingly coming to the fore . As if to confirm the latest trend , a young Muslim girl was arrested yesterday in the Agartala railway station with a consignment of ‘Ganja’(Cannabis) which she had ben carrying to hand over to her handler in the town.

Sources from Agartala railway station said that Priya Akhatar (19), a resident of Das Para in Bhati Abhay Nagar area of Agartala, had been moving suspiciously with a bag on the space between Government Railway Police (GRP) post and the toilet, while apparently waiting for a train. The sight of the girl loitering restlessly in the area ignited suspicion in the minds of the GRP personnel and they confronted her . After a search operation the GRP personnel found 11 kgs of dry ‘Ganja’(cannabis) in the trolley bag which she had been carrying .

Priya Akhtar was arrested immediately and taken to the GRP station for interrogation. A case under the NDPS act was registered against her and she was later handed over to Amtoli police station for being produced in court . Sources said that the Amtoli police station is likely to press for her police remand from court for interrogation in custody to elicit information regarding the network , as part of which she was working.
