State Election Commission preparing for holding Village Committee polls

The state election commission has commenced preparation for holding elections to 587 Village Committees-counterparts of Panchayats in ADC areas-in full swing. The delimitation process of the Village Committees has already been completed and there is no change in the total number of the Committees which still stand at 587 post-delimitation . Now the state election commission has announced dates for notifying the polling centres for the polls. The names of polling centres were announced yesterday with notification of dates for claims and objections.
According to the notification issued by the state election commission the polling centres or booths will be notified on May 11, that is tomorrow. Simultaneously the period of claim and objection will commence from that date also and continue till May 15. This will be followed by the settlement of claims and objections on May 16 and the final list of polling stations or booths will be notified on May 18.
Apart from this the draft delimitation of the Village Committee areas had been notified by the state election commission on April 28 and this was followed by the period of claim and objection till May 5. The claims and objections were settled on May 7 and the final list of delimited Village Committees was notified on May 8. Sources in the state election commission said that there has been no change in the total number of Village Committees that stand at 587 bur there has been minor changes in the formula for reserving seats for women candidates. The final electoral roll for the Village Committee elections will be released soon, sources in the state election commission said .
