The CPI (M) state secretary and leader of the opposition Jiten Chowdhury has demanded that a high level investigation team be constituted by the state government to go into the allegedly induced suicide of BJP councilor of Dharma Nagar municipal council (Ward No-5) on May 4 night. Speaking to media persons in the CPI (M) state headquarter at Melarmath, Jiten said that a serious allegation has been made by deceased councilor Rahul Kishore Roy’s wife Ananya Bhattacharjee that the newly elected MLA of Dharma Nagar Jawhar Chakraborty and his wife Barnali Goswami, former chairperson of state womens commission, were responsible for the attack on their residence at Nazrul Sarani on May 4 night, leading to the suicide of her husband because of the humiliation heaped on his family members. “This is a serious allegation and Ananya has also given specific names of those who had tried to storm their house on May 4; the matter should not be left to routine investigation by police but should be looked into seriously by a high level team in keeping with the instructions ostensibly issued by the chief minister Dr Manik Saha” said Jiten. He also described the suicide of Rahul Kishore Roy as ‘extremely painful and heart wrenching as he was a young man’.
Apart from this, Jiten Chowdhury , accompanied by former MP Sankar Prasad Datta, today visited the residence of CPI (M) leader Tapan Das, a senior leader of the CPI (M) in Jirania. The residence of Tapan Das who now mostly lives at Agartala for fear of attacks by the BJP had been stormed and vandalized by the local BJP workers. The matter was brought to the notice of police in Jirania but no action has so far been taken. Jiten and San kar Prasad have condemned the attack yesterday and demanded appropriate action by police. “The chief minister often says that such violence and anti-social activity will not be tolerated and we now expect the chief minister to live up to his statements and taken action against those who vandalized the residence of Tapan Das” said Jiten.
Meanwhile, Barnali Goswami, former chairperson of state womens commission and consort of newly elected MLA of Dharma Nagar, Jawhar Chakraborty, has registered a complaint with the Dharma Nagar police station against a social media activist who accused herself and her husband of conspiracy for the induced suicide of BJP councilor of Dharma Nagar municipal council Rahul Kishore Roy on the night of May 4. She urged the police to take action against the social media activist for spreading scurrilous charges against herself and her husband. But sources from Dharma Nagar said that Barnali has also been trying to pressure police for not acting upon the instructions of chief minister Dr Manik Saha for conducting a high level inquiry into the induced suicide of Rahul Kishore Roy and cracking down on criminals responsible for attacking his residence and humiliating his old mother and wife .
