One autorickshaw driver was injured and the BMS local office in Bamutia area under Mohanpur subdivision was closed down after a clash between two rival groups of the same outfit. Mounting tension has been reported from the area in the wake of the clash and injury inflicted on the harmless autorickshaw driver.

Giving details of what had happened, sources from Bamutia said that the trouble had started around 9-00 in the morning today when the autorickshaw drivers had gathered to collect their line numbers. There was a crowd of autorickshaw drivers and when one driver named Pranab Banik was in the queue to collect his number he was pushed away and beaten by another driver Sudipta Das. As a result Pranab Banik lay bleeding on the road and was taken to local hospital by a few residents of the area.

Sources said that the root of the trouble was the formation of a new committee of the local BMS unit but after the assault on Pranab Banik , the other autorickshaw drivers present locked up the BMS office . After the news about the lockdown of the BMS office spread there was tension in the area and a large police and TSR force was deployed in Bamutia and Kali Bazar area to maintain peace. The officer in charge of the Bamutia police outpost Pritam Chakma however avoided giving a direct reply on what actually had happened over the dispute among autorickshaw drivers. The area is still tense but the injured autorickshaw driver Pranab Banik said that unless the state level authority of BMS intervened strongly to restore discipline the trouble in the area will escalate in future as there is no agreed rule over the plying of autorickshaws affiliated with the Bamutia local unit of BMS.
