Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said the state government has provided 20,845 regular government jobs since the BJP assumed office in 2018 and has started the process of filling vacant posts in different departments despite financial limitations.

Speaking at a programme in Agartala organised for distribution of appointment letters among newly recruited employees, the chief minister said 115 more candidates were inducted into regular service on the day.

He stated that all the appointments made so far were regular government jobs. According to him, another 24,078 individuals have also been engaged through contractual and outsourcing arrangements in different sectors.

The chief minister said many contractual workers later secured permanent positions after clearing competitive examinations. He also expressed satisfaction over the increasing participation of women in government recruitment.

Highlighting employment initiatives, Saha said the government was continuing efforts to fill vacant posts though salary expenditure remained a financial challenge for the state. At the same time, he said the administration was focusing heavily on development works and infrastructure projects, claiming that nearly Rs 10,000 crore was being spent on capital expenditure.

Referring to skill development, the chief minister said employability in the country had improved significantly after 2014. He stressed the importance of continuous skill enhancement across all sectors.

Saha also advised newly recruited employees to prioritise public service and reminded them that government salaries are funded through taxpayers’ money.

During his address, he further claimed that Tripura had secured the top position in ease of doing business and reform implementation assessments.

Touching upon political developments in neighbouring West Bengal, the chief minister criticised the political situation there and remarked that political decisions should always serve public welfare. He also informed that he would attend oath-taking ceremonies scheduled in West Bengal on May 9 and in Guwahati on May 12.
