A fresh wave of political tension has surfaced in Tripura following allegations of attacks, vandalism, and intimidation targeting opposition political workers and offices in different parts of the state. The incidents have once again raised concerns over the deteriorating political atmosphere and the growing trend of post-election violence in the region.

According to reports, miscreants allegedly attacked the residence of a CPI(M) leader at Jirania Bazaar under the Jirania Assembly constituency on Saturday night. The house belongs to Tapan Das, a CPI(M) leader. Eyewitnesses and local residents claimed that a group of attackers arrived with a bulldozer at the residence and allegedly vandalized the property.

The attackers reportedly broke the iron gate of the house before damaging doors and windows. At the time of the incident, Tapan Das’s elderly mother and other tenants were present inside the house. Hearing loud noises and shouting, family members allegedly contacted local BJP leaders and police seeking immediate assistance.

However, before law enforcement personnel could arrive, the accused individuals reportedly fled the area. Local BJP leaders later visited the spot and inspected the damage. The incident created panic among residents of the locality.

State Food and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury also visited the affected area later and strongly condemned the incident. Speaking to local residents and party workers, he termed the attack unfortunate and condemnable and called for maintaining peace and democratic values in the state.

Political observers note that such incidents are not isolated and have occurred repeatedly in Tripura after major electoral outcomes. Following the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections, several opposition parties workers and supporters had alleged attacked and two CPIM party offices in Sonamura and Kamalpur was allegedly vandalized.

Similarly, after victory rallies held by Tipra Motha in some areas, BJP workers alleged that miscreants attacked the BJP office at Jampuijala, leading to heightened political confrontation between rival groups. The incident had triggered strong reactions from Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha , who was order strict police action and protection for political workers irrespective of party affiliation.

Political analysts believe the recurring cycle of retaliatory violence after elections or political rallies is damaging Tripura’s democratic environment. Civil society members and local residents have urged all political parties to maintain restraint and ensure that differences are resolved through democratic means rather than violence.

Meanwhile, police sources stated that investigations into the latest vandalism incident are underway and necessary legal action would be taken against those involved. Security arrangements in sensitive areas have reportedly been strengthened to prevent further escalation of tension.

The latest developments have once again highlighted the urgent need for political tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and stronger administrative intervention to stop repeated incidents of political violence across Tripura.
