A fresh wave of political tension has gripped parts of Jampuijala in Sepahijala district in Tripura following the arrest of Tipra Motha leaders and the vandalism of a BJP party office in Jampuijala.

Tipra Motha MLA Biswajit Koloi from Takarjala and MDC Suraj Debbarma are facing serious allegations after a violent incident in the Jampuijala market area, where miscreants reportedly attacked and destroyed a BJP party office during a so-called victory procession on Sunday afternoon. Despite the presence of a large police force led by the Officer-in-Charge, the situation spiraled out of control, and the office could not be protected.

Following the incident, the matter quickly reached Chief Minister Manik Saha, who reportedly issued strict instructions for immediate action. In a significant move, police registered cases against 16 individuals, including Tipra Motha MLA Biswajit Koloi and MDC Suraj Debbarma. This marks one of the first instances in Jampuijala where police have taken action against elected representatives and Tipra Motha leaders under administrative pressure.

Jampuijala ADC Village Chairman Ranjit Debbarma has already been arrested. He was produced before the Bishalgarh court on Monday, which remanded him to judicial custody until May 11.

In a related development, Jampuijala Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Mrinal Kanti Reang, was suspended on Sunday night for failing to maintain law and order. A new OC was appointed swiftly and brought in from Kalamchoura Police Station in the presence of senior police officials, including the IG Lawandorder.

The arrests and subsequent police action have triggered sharp reactions from the Tipra Motha party. Their youth wing, YTF (Youth Tipra Federation), has called for a 12-hour bandh on Tuesday in protest against what they describe as police excess and political targeting. The bandh has led to the closure of government offices and shops, along with disruption of vehicular movement in Takarjala and Jampuijala.

Meanwhile, tensions remain high as police face mounting pressure to arrest the remaining accused, including the MLA and MDC. Apart from the chairman, only one arrest has been made so far, leading to further criticism and unrest.

Reports also indicate that several BJP leaders and workers, including Takarjala Mandal President Nirmal Debbarma, have been affected since the TTAADC elections counting day, though detailed information is still emerging.

The situation remains sensitive, with authorities closely monitoring developments to prevent further escalation.
