The Michael Madhusudhan Dutta(MMD) College, Sabroom in collaboration with Sabroom District Hospital organized an awareness programme today on Malaria. The event was attended by Dr. Soumik Hazra, Medical Officer, Community health officer Palash Debnath of BK Palli, faculty members and students of the college. The programme was chaired by College Principal Dr. Anupam Guha
Dr Soumik Hazra mentioned that the World Malaria Day was observed on April 25th this year, as always. To mark various initiatives, today’s event aimed to raise awareness among people about malaria. The World Health Organization's theme for this year was-"Ready to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must" — emphasizing the current potential and urgent need for malaria elimination. The objectives of the day included increasing global awareness about malaria, reaching remote areas with diagnosis and treatment options (including vaccines), and mobilizing funds for the eradication of the disease.
As part of the observance, activities such as eliminating mosquito breeding sites, using mosquito nets, and raising awareness about prompt testing when experiencing fever were promoted. Government of India is working towards total malaria eradication by 2030 and has made significant progress between 2023 and 2025. Dr Anupam Guha urged students to not only study diligently but also to analyze accurate information and stay informed. He also encouraged everyone to be aware of and utilize government schemes related to health.
