Tripura on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Centre under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 to strengthen drinking water supply across the state.

Chief Minister Manik Saha said the extension of the mission till December 2028 would help speed up household tap water connectivity, especially in rural and remote areas.

The agreement was signed during a virtual programme attended by Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil, Minister of State V Somanna and senior officials of the Centre and state government.

Speaking after the event, the chief minister said release of fresh funds would resume stalled works and help complete tap water connections for every household.

He said 86.34 percent of families in Tripura are now covered under Functional Household Tap Connections, while over 6.48 lakh rural households are receiving safe drinking water under the scheme.

According to him, 131 villages and 4,711 habitations have already achieved full tap water coverage.

The state has also ensured piped water supply in 3,311 schools and 6,585 Anganwadi centres.

Union Minister Patil praised Tripura’s progress under the scheme and urged officials to complete the remaining work quickly.

Saha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union government for extending the scheme timeline, saying it would further strengthen water infrastructure and service delivery in the state.
