The Press Information Bureau (PIB), New Delhi has officially dismissed a viral social media claim alleging a sharp increase in petrol and diesel prices across India, calling the circulated notice fake and misleading.

According to PIB, a fabricated document, falsely attributed to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, claimed that petrol prices had been increased by Rs.10 per litre and diesel by Rs.12.50 per litre. The viral message also cited an alleged surge of over 100% in global crude oil prices as justification for the hike.

Authorities clarified that no such order has been issued by the Government of India, and the documents circulating online are entirely fake.

In a public advisory, the PIB Fact Check unit emphasized the importance of relying only on official government sources for accurate updates. It warned that sharing unverified content can create unnecessary panic and confusion among citizens.

“The Government of India has NOT issued any such order. Always verify such news through official sources,” PIB stated.
