Serious allegations of corruption and physical assault involving a task force member of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) have surfaced from Agartala’s Dhaleshwar (Road No. 11), triggering public concern. However, AMC authorities have strongly refuted the claims following an internal enquiry, stating that no evidence was found to support the accusations.
According to earlier reports, a team of AMC task force officials, allegedly led by Rabindranath Ghosh, had visited the residence of Ratna Roy on the night of April 4. It was claimed that the team had cited deviations from the AMC-approved construction plan at her property in Banamalipur and allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. The situation reportedly escalated when Ratna Roy’s son, Saikat Saha, refused to comply, leading to allegations of physical assault and forced detention at East Agartala Police Station.
The incident reportedly led to a formal complaint filed by Ratna Roy on April 6 with multiple authorities, including the AMC Commissioner and senior police officials. The absence of an FIR initially raised questions among sections of the public.
However, presenting its official version, AMC authorities clarified that the matter originated from a prior complaint filed by one Ranjan Dey and others against Smt Ratna Roy regarding construction of a boundary wall and building.
“An enquiry was conducted based on the earlier complaint, where certain irregularities were found. A hearing was subsequently held, and Smt Ratna Roy was instructed to strictly follow the provisions of the Tripura Building Rules, 2017 and to stop any unauthorized construction activities,” AMC authorities stated.
They further added that the subsequent complaint lodged by Smt Ratna Roy against Rabindranath Ghosh, Task Force In-Charge, was also investigated thoroughly.
“As per the enquiry report, no such incident or misconduct was found to have occurred as alleged. The claims made in the complaint could have arisen due to the enforcement action taken earlier against the identified irregularities,” the AMC clarified. The enquiry had been initiated at the instance of chief executive officer (CEO) of AMC, Saju Vaheed.
