The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre Agartala, has issued a comprehensive and updated weather warning today at 1 pm indicating that Tripura is set to experience a prolonged spell of severe weather, including thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next five days, with continued rain activity likely for up to seven days.

According to the official press release and the mid-day weather bulletin, the state has already begun witnessing intense weather conditions, with heavy rainfall and strong winds recorded across multiple districts in the last 24 hours. Sepahijala district recorded the highest rainfall at 145.5 mm in Bishramganj, while Khowai district experienced the highest wind speed of 91 kmph in Teliamura, indicating the severity of the developing system.

The IMD forecast states that light to moderate rain and thundershowers will occur at most places across all districts throughout the period, but embedded within this widespread rainfall will be spells of heavy to very heavy rain ranging from 7 cm to 20 cm in isolated locations. The most critical period is expected during the first two days when districts such as Khowai, West Tripura, Sepahijala, Gomati, and South Tripura are highly likely to experience intense rainfall along with thunderstorms and squally winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph.

As per the forecast progression, rainfall intensity will remain significant during Day 3 and Day 4, particularly over Sepahijala and South districts, while the rest of the state will continue to receive heavy rainfall between 7 and 11 cm. During this phase, wind speeds are expected to reduce slightly to 40–50 kmph, although thunderstorm and lightning activity will continue across all districts. By Day 5, heavy to very heavy rainfall will mainly persist over South Tripura, while other districts will still receive notable rainfall, accompanied by winds of 30–40 kmph.

Importantly, the IMD bulletin further indicates that rainfall activity will not end after five days. Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected to continue across most parts of Tripura on Day 6 and Day 7, suggesting a prolonged wet spell across the state. Additionally, temperature trends show that maximum temperatures will remain below normal by 5 to 8 degrees Celsius over the next three to four days, while minimum temperatures will also stay below normal by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius for nearly a week, contributing to a cooler and unstable weather pattern.
