Widespread damage to electricity infrastructure following intense cyclonic winds and heavy rainfall has disrupted power supply across large parts of Tripura, including the capital city, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said on Tuesday.

According to the minister, the storm caused significant destruction to transmission and distribution systems, with electric poles uprooted, overhead wires snapped, and debris such as fallen trees and bamboo obstructing lines in multiple locations.

Restoration efforts have been initiated by engineers and field staff of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd, who have been working since morning to repair the damaged network and reinstate supply. Teams from disaster management authorities and other departments have also been deployed to assist in the ongoing operations.

While electricity has been partially restored in some areas, normal services remain disrupted in many parts due to the scale of the damage. In certain locations, power supply continues to be suspended as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety during repair work.

The minister acknowledged the inconvenience caused to the public and urged cooperation with field personnel engaged in restoration activities amid the ongoing adverse conditions.
