A delegation of Tipura Autorickshaw Union , affiliated with the pro-BJP Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) , today met in deputation with the officer in charge (OC) of the East Agartala police station to protest the regular extortion of money from them by traffic inspector Mukta Ghosh. The BMS ‘Pravari’of West Tripura district Liton Paul said that the traffic inspector Mukta Ghosh has made a habit of extorting money from autorickshaw drivers in the town on one excuse or the other and , unless the autorickshaw drivers pay him bribe he involves them in false cases and harass them.
All these issues have been brought to the notice of a East Agartala police station authority through a memorandum. While the East Agartala police station authority have assured the BMS-affiliated union of looking into the matter and informing the higher authority of this, the union leaders also indicated that unless their grievances are redressed they will also move higher authority in state police . The BMS ‘Pravari’ Liton Paul also resented the role of traffic authority in managing the traffic system in Agartala . This has now become extremely serious because of ongoing repaira on both sides of the roads, illegal parking and encroachments in certain cases over and above the extortion of the traffic officers and the matter needs to be resolved urgently, said sources from the BMS.
