The Tripura unit of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) party observed the 79th founding anniversary of the party on April 24 in the Students Health Home auditorium of Agartala through a meeting. The programme began with the collective singing of a song based on the life and contribution of party’s founder and leading Marxist philosopher and ideologue Shibdas Ghsoh who had been a member and activist of the revolutionary Ánushilon Samity in the pre-independence days.

The state secretary of the SUCI’s organizing committee Arun Bhowmik initiated the discussion through a stirring speech in which he dwelt at length on the current critical situation in India marred by the politics of religious polarization, pro-capitalist and anti-people policies of the governments in Centre and states and increasing leeway being deliberately given to big corporate houses at the cost of the people. He called for a massive countrywide agitation of people to bring about a change in the current crisis ridden scenario.

Apart from this, the member of SUCI central committee and main speaker Manab Bera also delivered an erudite speech and discussed in detail of the socio-economic evolution of the country after the colonial British government had handed over power to representatives of big capital in the country. He said that the founder of the party Shibdas Ghosh had realized well in time how the power transfer from British to the advocates of the big capitalists would lead to immense suffering of the poor masses of the country. “Keeping this in mind comrade Shibdas Ghosh had taken the timely move to launch the SUCI as a revolutionary party on April 24 1948 to achieve the emancipation of people from exploitation by the big capital and ‘Kulak’elements” said Manab Bera . He also accused the present ruling class of leading the country to communal polarization and fascism. He called upon the working class people as well as small and marginal farmers to unite under the banner of the SUCI to continue their struggle for emancipation from persecution and exploitation. The meeting ended with the singing of the “Communist International”, said Sanjay Chowdhury , the office secretary of SUCI, Tripura.
