AMC , a sinking den of corruption, Task Force employee beats up residents for non-payment of bribe, no action from East Agartala police station

Former assassinated prime minister Indira Gandhi had once famously termed corruption as a ‘global phenomenon’ in the context of massive allegations against her own son Sanjay Gandhi in Maruti scam case. Perhaps the “Iron Lady” was right to a great extent as by now corruption has become almost a second nature across the country. The point is finely illustrated by what happened in Dhaleshshwar (Road no-11) of Agartala three weeks ago.

Sources from the area said that on April 4 a team of AMC task force led by Rabindra Nath Ghosh had landed in the rented house of Ratna Roy in Dhaleshwar Road no-11 at night and said that there had been major deviations from the AMC-sanctioned plan of construction in her own house at Banamalipur . Rabindra Ghosh demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakhs and threatened that unless the amount was paid work on construction would be stopped . However , Ratna Roy’s son Saikat Saha flatly refused to pay any bribe and , incensed by this, Rabindra Ghosh and his mafia-like task force members physically assaulted Saikat and dragged him to East Agartala police station. Ratna Roy who had heard her son’s screaming for help rushed out but she was also beaten up. Significantly, after taking Saikat to East Agartala police station, thuggish Rabindra Ghosh repeatedly kicked on his male sex organ and injured him before he was let go.

It was on April 6 that Ratna Roy filed a written complaint to the East Agarala police station with copies to the AMC commissioner , SP (West) Namit Pathak and DGP Anurag Dhankhar but no FIR has so far been registered against accused Rabindra Ghosh and his accomplices by the East Agartala police station . This has raised serious questions not only against the corrupt racket in the AMC and the East Agartala police station but also against the overall approach of the state government towards so-called good governance as touted so loudly.
