The chief minister Dr Manik Saha today presided over a BJP review meeting on the debacle suffered by the party in the ADC election in the state BJP headquarter in Krishna Nagar area of Agartala. Besides the chief minister the meeting was attended by BJP state president Rajeev Bhattacharjee and party’s senior tribal leaders , Rebati Tripura, Bipin Debbarma and a host of others.
What exactly transpired in discussions in the meeting is not clear but sources within the party said that the chief minister, state president and other leaders who had spoken in the meeting attributed the defeat suffered by the party to organizational weakness and failure of the party machinery to put across its message and programme for tribals to the voters. All the leaders spoke of the need for toning up the organizational machinery and bringing in more and more tribal supporters into the party fold. However all the leaders including the chief minister and state president expressed grave concern over the largescale violence being indulged in by the unruly workers and supporters of ‘Tipra Motha’ all over the hilly areas of the state and called for an end to such violent activities.
Later speaking to media persons the chief minister said that the meeting had decided to strengthen the organization in the hilly areas to combat all political challenges. Asked about the violence unleashed by ‘Tipra Motha’workers and supporters on leaders and workers of BJP in hilly areas Dr Manik Saha said that they should realize what they are doing is illegal and consequential. “If they continue to do such things people will ultimately be forced to desert them and we will take the tribal people into confidence through our organizational network which will be strengthened” said Dr Saha. Regarding the forcible closure of Chhabimura guest house in Amarpur today by ‘Tipra Motha’till April 28, the chief minister described this as ‘gross violation of law’and hinted that appropriate action will be taken in the matter. He also said that elections to the Village Committee will also come off but condemned the forcible occupation of Village Committee offices in hilly areas by ‘Tipra Motha’ workers and supporters and described them as ‘illegal’. “These things can not go on , there is rule of law in the state and this will be executed with due diligence” said the chief minister Dr Manik Saha.
