Poor day labourer dies by landfall at home, impoverished pickle seller in hospital with serious illness

In a heart-rending accident a poor day labourer died by a land-fall at home , rendering his wife children totally helpless . The accident happened this morning at Ekinpur village under Siddhi Nagar Tehshil in Raj Nagar assembly constituency in Belonia subdivision . Giving details of the accident police sources from Raj Nagar said that Ratan Bhowmik (45), a poor day labourer by profession and resident of Ekinpur area, had been cutting down earth from the upland behind his house . But suddenly a huge heap of earth slid down and fell on him. His wife and children saw this but were powerless to rescue him from beneath the heap of earth .

After being informed the officer in charge of disaster management and DCM Sanjay Shil and a few employees of the Belonia SDM office rushed to the spot and arranged to have a dozer of PWD brought to the area. The dozer cleared the earth and the dead body of Ratan Bhowmik emerged from below the heap. His wife and children , the daughter a student of class XII and the son , a student of class V-broke down in tears . The body of Ratan Bhowmik was sent by the administration to Belonia hospital for post-mortem. His wife and children are now in a totally helpless condition as Ratan Bhowmik was the sole bread earner of the family. However , the disaster management officer and DCM Sanjay Shil promised to have governmental assistance sanctioned for the family as per rule. The accidental death of Ratan Bhowmik has cast a shadow of grief and mourning in the entire Ekinpur area.

Meanwhile, a popular vendor Jayanta Roy who used to move along the road daily to sell rancid pickle met with an accident at Mohanpur on his way back home from married daughter’s house. He was admitted to GBP hospital in a critical condition . Many of Jayanta Roy’s customers, specially women and girls expressed their shock and dismay over the accident that he had met with .
