In the last election to Bangladesh National Assembly held on February 12 this year, the minority Hindus had voted overwhelmingly for the ruling BNP, hoping only for a modicum of peace and security of life. But as always, the BNP has also proved a failure in providing this bare minimum to the persecuted and helpless Hindu minorities. Apart from a long series of attacks and killings of Hindus, the latest anti-Hindu outrage has taken place in Teknaf area under Chittagong district.

According to sources from across the border , on the night of April 21 a small Hindu colony of eighteen households in Jelepara village near Teknaf had been totally gutted by a fire around 11-30 in the night. Rubel Rahaman (32), a resident of nearby area , told media persons that the fire had been first sighted around 11-30 in the night and there was a huge uproar caused by fear and panic . Even though all the members of eighteen families had managed to rush out of burning houses they failed to save any of their movable and immovable assets including cash. They are now living in open air under the sky , spending days in starvation and semi-starvation . The Fire Brigade authority from Teknaf said that the reason for the fire was yet to be ascertained but the losses caused by the fire would be to the tune of at least 3/4 crores as all the affected Hindu families are rich fishery businessmen.
