Nirmal Debbarma, the BJP candidate from Takarjala constituency, remains unable to return to his home even days after the violence that erupted ahead of the ADC elections in Tripura.
The attacks, allegedly carried out on the eve of the polls, forced Debbarma to flee his residence for safety. Since then, he has not been able to return, with tension still prevailing in the area.
His residence in Takarjala now stands in complete ruins and is under police protection. The scale of destruction is extensive. The courtyard is littered with the remains of more than a hundred motorcycles and several luxury vehicles, many of which were set on fire. Some motorcycles are still submerged in the pond within the premises.
The road in front of the house is strewn with burnt and damaged bikes, while the boundary fencing, house structures, and household belongings have been completely vandalized. The entire area presents a scene similar to a war-affected zone.
The violence has also displaced hundreds of BJP workers and supporters from Takarjala and surrounding areas. Many of them are currently taking shelter in temporary camps across the state, including at Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala, as well as in Khowai and Teliamura.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister had announced financial assistance of Rs.64 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for those affected by the violence. However, as per reports from the ground, BJP supporters from Takarjala who have been displaced are yet to receive any financial assistance till date.
Despite the announcement and the deployment of police in affected areas, uncertainty and fear continue to grip the region. The incident has further intensified political tensions in Tripura, raising serious concerns over law and order during the ADC election period.
