In a strong and unequivocal response to the recent incidents of violence following the ADC election results in Tripura, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has condemned the alleged attacks on BJP supporters, terming them unacceptable in a civilized and democratic society.Addressing the situation, the Chief Minister alleged that miscreants reportedly associated with Tipra Motha were involved in a series of attacks across different parts of the state. According to him, houses, shops, and properties belonging to BJP supporters were targeted in what he described as illegal and politically motivated acts that have no place in a democratic framework. To assess the ground situation, Dr Saha visited displaced party workers and supporters who have taken shelter at the Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala. During his visit, he interacted with the affected individuals, listened to their accounts of the violence, and expressed deep concern over their suffering and displacement.Reiterating his government’s firm stance, the Chief Minister stated that such barbaric acts would be dealt with strictly. He announced that a high-level meeting would be convened with the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police to review the law and order situation. He further added that the Law Secretary may also be consulted to explore stringent legal provisions against those responsible for the violence.
Dr. Saha also pointed out that similar incidents had occurred in the past, including during earlier political regimes and after the 2021 ADC elections. He suggested that such acts of violence are often aimed at creating fear among opposition supporters and discouraging democratic participation in future electoral processes.
Assuring the affected families of full government support, the Chief Minister emphasized that maintaining law and order and protecting democratic rights remain top priorities of his administration. He promised swift and appropriate legal action to prevent any recurrence of such incidents. In a significant relief measure, Dr Saha announced that 258 families affected by the recent violence will receive assistance in the first phase. An amount of Rs.64.50 lakh has been sanctioned from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to provide immediate financial aid and support to those in distress. The state government, he reiterated, is committed to restoring normalcy and ensuring justice for all affected citizens.
