Agartala Press Club Holds Annual General Meeting, Pays Tribute to Departed Journalists and Reviews Progress

The Annual General Meeting of the Agartala Press Club was held on Sunday, bringing together senior and young journalists in a constructive and reflective session focused on the welfare of the media fraternity and institutional development.

The meeting commenced with heartfelt tributes to two recently deceased journalists, Tapan Chakraborty and Nandan Chakraborty, honoring their contributions to journalism.

The presidium of the meeting included Press Club President Pranab Sarkar, Vice President Chitra Roy, and senior journalists Shrotoranjan Khisa and Sanjib Deb. Also present on the stage were senior editor Samir Pal and noted poet-writer Bimlendu Chakraborty.

At around 11:30 AM, the Secretary of the Press Club, Ramakanta De, presented the annual report along with the financial statement. This was followed by an engaging discussion in which several prominent members participated, including Samir Pal, Chitra Roy, Sanjib Deb, Manimoy Roy, Krishnapada Karmakar, Debashis Majumdar, Subrata Debnath, Samrat Chowdhury, Chandrima Sarkar, Meghadhan Deb, along with associate members Bimlendu Chakraborty and Parijat Dutta.

Speakers highly appreciated the continuous improvement in the functioning of the Agartala Press Club and its proactive initiatives aimed at safeguarding journalists’ interests. Both senior and young members commended the improved quality of the club’s canteen services. At the same time, participants emphasized the need for increased efforts to ensure the safety and security of journalists.

The members expressed satisfaction that the Press Club is being run efficiently, maintaining unity among journalists beyond political differences, and fostering a healthy professional environment.

Responding to the discussions, Secretary Ramakanta De addressed key issues raised by members and assured continued efforts for further development.
