Tension escalated in parts of Tripura on Sunday morning as supporters of the Tipra Motha Party enforced blockades on two important national highways, protesting against the arrest of their party supporters in connection with post-election violence cases.

The roadblocks were set up at Behala Bari on the Khowai–Kamalpur road and at Chankhala along the Khowai–Agartala road, bringing vehicular movement to a complete halt. The agitation reportedly began early in the morning and has continued for several hours, severely affecting normal life.

According to reports, two separate arrest incidents triggered the protests, one under Champahour Police Station and another under Baijal Bari Police Station. Alleging that their party supporters have been targeted in these cases, Tipra Motha supporters resorted to blocking the highways in protest.

The sudden disruption of these key routes has led to extreme hardship for the public. Air passengers traveling to and from Agartala, patients requiring urgent medical attention, and daily commuters have been left stranded due to the complete suspension of traffic movement. Long queues of vehicles were seen piling up on both sides of the affected highways.

The situation has raised serious concerns over public inconvenience and law and order, especially in the backdrop of post-election tensions in the state. Authorities are reportedly assessing the situation and are expected to take steps to restore normal traffic flow.

As the blockade continues, uncertainty looms over when normalcy will return, while the suffering of common people continues to mount.
