BJP MLA Tofazzal Hossain Accused of Threatening Police Officer, Viral Audio Sparks Major Controversy in Tripura

A major political controversy has erupted in Tripura after serious allegations surfaced against BJP MLA Tofazzal Hossain of Boxanagar, who is accused of pressuring police officials and using abusive language during a phone conversation that has now gone viral on social media.

According to reports, the incident involves a heated telephonic exchange between the MLA and a police officer of Kalamchara Police Station. In the audio clip, which has been widely circulated online, the MLA is allegedly heard threatening the officer in highly inappropriate and abusive language while attempting to influence police actions in favor of an alleged criminal.

Following the viral spread of the audio, efforts were reportedly made to contain the situation. However, the matter escalated when the police took a firm stance against the alleged misconduct. The Kalamchara Police Station has reportedly initiated legal proceedings suo motu against the MLA for attempting to exert unlawful pressure and for issuing threats, including allegedly warning the officer of false cases if his demands were not met.

Police personnel from the station have also urged higher authorities, including the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, to take strict legal action against Tofazzal Hossain. They have formally communicated the seriousness of the issue through official channels, highlighting concerns over interference in law enforcement duties.

This is not the first time the MLA has faced such allegations. Previous complaints suggest that he has been accused of attempting to influence police actions in multiple criminal cases. During the ADC elections, he was also reportedly involved in creating disturbances at several polling stations under the Golaghati Assembly segment.

Additionally, allegations have been raised regarding the construction of a market shed on government land in his area, further adding to the list of controversies surrounding him.

In the viral conversation, the MLA is also heard accusing the police officer of accepting a bribe of Rs.5 lakh from supporters of Tipra Motha Party during the ADC elections to ensure the victory of their candidate. He further alleged that despite post-election attacks on BJP supporters by Tipra Motha workers, the police remained inactive.

The situation took a more serious turn when the MLA allegedly made defamatory personal remarks against the police officer, including inappropriate accusations about his conduct in tribal areas.

The incident has triggered widespread debate over political interference in policing and the need for accountability among elected representatives. As the controversy deepens, all eyes are now on the state administration regarding what action will be taken in response to the allegations.
