In the aftermath of the ADC election results, tension escalated sharply in parts of South Tripura as alleged supporters of Tipra Motha Party carried out disruptive activities in the Sabroom subdivision on Saturday.
According to local reports, around 300 supporters suddenly gathered in the Bankul area under the Manu Assembly constituency and forcibly shut down both the New Market and Old Market of Bankul. The sudden closure of these key marketplaces caused panic among traders and residents, severely disrupting normal life in the region.
In addition to the market shutdown, the mob reportedly vandalized the heritage Buddhist view point located near the Bankul Mahamuni Buddhist Vihar. The site, considered a local landmark, suffered significant damage during the incident, raising concerns over the destruction of cultural and religious surroundings.
Eyewitnesses stated that the group created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation across the area. Several residents fled their homes and took shelter in safer locations amid the chaos. Local people have alleged that despite the scale of the disturbance, police presence remained minimal and no immediate action was taken to control the situation.
The incident has triggered widespread concern among residents of Sabroom subdivision, with many demanding stronger administrative intervention to restore normalcy and ensure security. As of now, the situation remains tense, and authorities are yet to issue an official detailed statement regarding the events.
Further updates are awaited as the administration reviews the situation and assesses the damage caused during the unrest.
