Tension has gripped several parts of Tripura following the declaration of the ADC election results, as reports of post-poll violence and alleged attacks on BJP workers surfaced from multiple locations across the state. Many BJP leaders and supporters have reportedly fled their homes, seeking shelter in safer locations amid fear and insecurity.
According to sources, a significant number of BJP workers, including several influential leaders from areas surrounding the Agartala, have taken refuge at the Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel. Distressed party workers were seen appealing for security, with many expressing fear for their lives and property.
Incidents of violence were reported from areas such as Jirania, Mandai, Ramchandraghat, Bishalgarh, Golaghati, Jampuijala, Takarjala and Sabroom. Union of reports indicate vandalism, arson, and looting targeting BJP offices and residences. At Amtali Golaghati constituency’s Booth No. 38, miscreants allegedly damaged the gate and boundary wall of BJP leader Subrata Debbarma’s residence.
Senior BJP leaders, including Tripura ministers Tinku Roy and Sushanta Chowdhury, visited several affected areas to assess the situation and meet impacted families. Minister Sushanta Chowdhury visited the residence of BJP candidate Abhijit Debbarma in Jirania, where alleged attacks took place late at night. He assured the family of administrative support and emphasized the need to maintain peace and communal harmony.
In Mandai, a BJP party office was reportedly set on fire by unidentified miscreants in an alleged attempt to create post-election unrest. Minister Chowdhury rushed to the spot and instructed police officials to take immediate action and arrest those responsible.
Meanwhile, Minister Tinku Roy visited Ramchandraghat and Asharam Bari to meet affected party workers and review the situation on the ground. He also met BJP workers who have taken shelter at the Khowai district office after fleeing their homes due to fear of further attacks.
The violence comes despite a message of democratic goodwill shared earlier by Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, founder of Tipra Motha, who had congratulated the winning candidates, the Chief Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition following the results. His message was seen by many as a positive step toward strengthening democratic values.
However, the recurrence of post-poll violence has raised serious concerns among the public. Questions are being raised about why such incidents continue to disrupt peace and harmony in Tripura even after repeated appeals for maintaining democratic decorum.
Authorities are yet to release an official detailed report on the incidents, while security measures are being intensified in sensitive areas to prevent further escalation.
