Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Thursday called for the deployment of adequate central forces in all counting centres for the TTAADC elections, alleging that the polling process was marred by violence and intimidation.
The CPI(M) state secretary said the Left Front had already raised concerns over the conduct of the April 12 polls and feared similar disruptions during counting. He alleged that supporters of Tipra Motha had prevented opposition polling agents from functioning in several booths and that instances of physical assault were reported.
A Left Front delegation has submitted its concerns to the Tripura State Election Commission, urging enhanced security measures to ensure a free and fair counting process. Chaudhury expressed hope that central forces would be deployed accordingly.
He also stressed that maintaining peace during counting is a shared responsibility, calling upon all political parties to exercise control over their workers.
Commenting on the outcome, Chaudhury refrained from making specific predictions but asserted that the results would contradict claims made by the Bharatiya Janata Party. He said the Left Front expects to improve its performance and remain competitive.
The CPI(M) leader further alleged a tacit understanding between the BJP and Tipra Motha, claiming both parties rely on each other politically, while accusing them of governance failures and mismanagement.
