In a concerning development on Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council election polling day, two pistols were reportedly recovered by supporters of the Tipra Motha from Booth No. 5 under the 11-Maharanipur–Teliamura Assembly constituency in Tripura.
According to initial reports from the ground, the recovery took place during the ongoing voting process, raising serious questions about security arrangements and the possible presence of illegal weapons near polling stations. The firearms were allegedly discovered by local supporters of the party, who subsequently brought the matter to public attention.
However, despite the recovery of the two pistols, local police authorities have not yet been able to ascertain the ownership or source of the weapons. Officials stated that an investigation is underway to determine how the firearms reached the polling area and whether there was any intent to disrupt the electoral process.
Following the incident, the State Election Commission Tripura ordered a repoll at the concerned polling station, which is scheduled to be held tomorrow.
The incident has sparked concern among voters and political observers, given the sensitive nature of elections and the need for strict law and order. The presence of unauthorized weapons in or around polling booths is considered a serious violation of electoral norms.
Police had initially assured that all necessary steps were being taken to investigate the matter thoroughly. However, even after three days, authorities have yet to identify the individual(s) who were in illegal possession of the two pistols.
