In a shocking incident on the evening of the New Year, a live electric wire snapped and fell in Ambassa Bazar for the second time within just ten days, leaving a teenage girl, Bulti Modak, critically injured. What has intensified public concern is that the accident occurred without any storm, rain, or strong winds, raising serious questions about infrastructure safety and maintenance.

Eyewitnesses reported that the high-voltage wire suddenly broke and fell onto the ground, electrocuting the girl. She sustained severe injuries due to the electric shock and was immediately rushed for medical treatment. The suddenness of the incident has left the entire locality in fear and disbelief.

This is not an isolated case. Ambassa has witnessed similar tragedies in the past. About three years ago, a devastating accident occurred during a Rath procession when people came in contact with a live electric wire, resulting in multiple casualties and injuries. Following that incident, the Tripura government had formed an inquiry committee to identify the reason and fix accountability for the lapses that led to the loss of lives.

However, even after three years, neither the electricity department nor the state administration has taken visible action against those responsible. No concrete findings have been made public, and no punitive measures have been enforced.

Now, with repeated incidents of old and poorly maintained electric wires snapping and falling to the ground, public anger is mounting. Within a span of days, such incidents have not only endangered lives but have already led to tragic consequences, including the untimely death of a young girl.

The New Year, which is usually a time of celebration, has instead turned into a moment of grief for the people of Ambassa. Residents are demanding immediate intervention, proper maintenance of electrical infrastructure, and strict accountability from the authorities to prevent further loss of innocent lives.

The incident once again highlights the urgent need for systemic reforms and proactive safety measures in Tripura’s power distribution system before more tragedies unfold.
