Allegations of large-scale irregularities have surfaced across the recently held elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with major political parties, including Congress, CPI(M), and BJP, demanding repolling in multiple polling stations across the state.

Significantly, all major parties except Tipra Motha have raised concerns over alleged malpractices during voting. However, neither the State Election Commission nor the political parties have officially disclosed the complete list of booths where repoll has been sought.

According to sources from various political parties, Congress, CPI(M), and BJP collectively have demanded repoll in no fewer than 50 polling stations. In a notable case, BJP candidate Nirmal Debbarma from Takarjala constituency has reportedly demanded repoll in all 27 polling stations of his constituency, alleging widespread irregularities.Demands for repoll have also emerged from several constituencies across Dhalai, Khowai, West Tripura, Sepahijala, and South Tripura districts, indicating that the issue may be more widespread than officially acknowledged.Despite these extensive demands, the State Election Commission has so far ordered repolling in only three polling stations.

Under the 10-Kulai-Champhahour (ST) constituency, polling in two booths—3-Bhatimaydan SB School and 17-Ramdeb Thakur Para, has been declared void following reports of irregularities. The Commission found that security lapses during voting hours may have compromised the fairness of the election process. It is alleged that many Bengali voters in this constituency were threatened not to go polling stations for casting their votes. In view of the above fresh polling in these two booths is scheduled to be held on April 16, from 7 am to 4 pm, with enhanced security arrangements.

In a separate development, the Commission has also ordered repoll in one booth under the Pekuarjala-Janmejay Nagar constituency. The decision came after serious allegations of irregularities, including EVM tampering, at the 39-Hirapur Senior Basic School polling station. The order was issued based on reports from election observers and supporting videographic evidence, which indicated that the integrity of the electoral process had been affected.

Speaking on the matter, State Election Commission Secretary Anurag Sen stated that reports from other disputed booths are still under examination, and further decisions regarding repolling will be taken after a thorough review.

The developments have intensified political tensions in the state, with opposition parties continuing to press for greater transparency and broader repolling to ensure free and fair elections.
