AMC in administrative chaos , 39 contingent employees in danger of losing all benefits even after 13 years of service

The AMC functionaries including elected representatives are a common sight in almost all government functions and programmes in and around the AMC areas but a critical situation is developing in the Corporation offices due to lack of care and proper supervision. This is likely to unfold sooner rather than later and the main casualties of the process are likely to be a considerable number of employees in the Corporation’s head office as well as in four zonal offices.

Official sources in the AMC said that altogether 39 employees had been recruited on contingency basis and posted in head office and four zonal offices in cash, accounts and general section discharging important duties . But even though thirteen years have passed there is no initiative on the part of the AMC to have their services regularized so that they can have access to regular payscales and due pensionary benefits. A number of such employees among the group of 39 are due to retire within next 4/5 years but the names of none of the 39 employees figure as yet in the finance department’s portal , as required, and hence they are in danger of losing all chances of regularization but neither the AMC Mayor nor any of the officials is concerned about the fate of the helpless employees. Besides, at least twenty regular employees from the four AMC zones are due to retire within next1/2 years but there is no initiative to fill up the vacancies that will be created by their retirement.

Apart from this, there has been no official recruitment in AMC over the past decade. Only employees supplied by the Safed , electrical or mechanical section of AMC as casual staff are engaged in important departments like cash, accounts, finance . What is most worrying is that names of such employees are yet to be included in the portal of the finance department and this means their future is also very bleak . Sources said that there has been no recruitment of educated or high-skilled staff such as engineers, auditor or computer staff by the AMC through TPSC over the past 15 years as several retired engineers are at work in different branches of AMC upon extension after extension only because they help the authority in gaining in too many pies. But the most worrying thing is that a system analyst named Aniruddha Das has been appointed in spite of the fact that he is only class-XII passed whereas only a computer engineer or a computer science specialist can be appointed to this post but he has been going great guns in the AMC office, peddling power and influence.

Sources said that the AMC Mayor is too busy with a number of corporators and the deputy Mayor to mind the business of running the administration properly . Even the urban development department is also maintaining a stoic silence over all issues even though the AMC is sinking into anarchy and chaos.
