In a significant development following allegations of irregularities during the TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) elections, the State Election Commission has announced re-polling in a single booth, while broader demands for re-election in other constituencies, including Takarjala, remain pending.

The Commission has officially declared that re-polling will be conducted at Booth No. 39 (Hirapur SB School) under 17 Pekuazala–Janmejoynagar constituency. The fresh voting is scheduled to take place on April 16, 2026, between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

According to sources, the decision was taken based on credible video evidence and reports submitted by election observers, which confirmed irregularities in the polling process. After verifying the complaints, the Commission declared the previous voting in the concerned booth null and void, ordering a re-election to ensure fairness and transparency.

However, controversy continues in the Takarjala constituency, where allegations of widespread disturbances have surfaced. The BJP candidate Nirmal Debbarma has demanded re-polling across all booths in the constituency, citing serious law-and-order issues.

As per reports, Debbarma was allegedly attacked inside his residence by miscreants linked to Tipra Motha on the eve of the election. The situation reportedly escalated to such an extent that, on the night before polling, he left his constituency along with polling agents and moved to Bishramganj for safety.

Claiming that free and fair elections were not possible under such circumstances, Debbarma has appealed to all concerned authorities for a complete re-poll in Takarjala. Despite these serious allegations, no official response has been issued either by the political party or the State Election Commission regarding the demand.

Speaking to media persons, the Secretary of the State Election Commission clarified that, as of now, re-polling has been approved only for one booth on April 16, and no further decisions have been taken.

The situation has raised concerns over electoral transparency and security in certain pockets, with political observers closely watching whether additional action will be taken in response to the allegations.
