The Tripura Human Rights Organisation (THRO), state’s lone rights body working for protection of human rights, have strongly condemned the storming of the residence of lady content creator Madhavi Biswas, vandalisation of the entire household and physical attacks on Madhavi and her teen-aged son at midnight last night. A team of the THRO comprising its chairman , senior advocate Purushottam Roybarman and functionaries and advovates, Samarjit Bhattacharjee , Kaushik Nath , Deepjyoti Paul and Kumar Chakraborty today visited the trauma centre of the GBP hospital and spoke to her in detail.
In a statement issued today THRO chairman advocate Purushottam Roybarman said that around 1-00 last night a large group of people including one woman owing allegiance to the ruling party had stormed the residence of content creator Madhavi Biswas and totally vandalized the house besides heaping abuses on herself and her teen-aged son. The miscreants physically assaulted Madhavi and her son and threatened her with dire consequences unless she stopped her commentary on social media on various issues. The attackers also video-graphed the entire physical assault programme on Madhavi and her son and showed it to an anonymous person and said ‘Sir, the operation is on’.
After the attack was over police personnel from College Tilla outpost rescued Madhavi and her son and shifted them to the trauma centre of the GBP hospital . “Both the mother and son had to take five stitches each for the injuries inflicted on them by attackers; the hands of both of them are bandaged and Madhavi’s teen-aged son has also suffered a fracture on his hand; we have assured them of all support” said THRO chairman Purushottam Roybarman. He asserted that the attack on Madhavi clearly shows how the rule of law and constitutional machinery have collapsed under the misrule of the incumbent government. “We will keep on protesting such gross violation of human rights and suppression of the constitutional right to freedom of expression and speech in a free society by the ruling party” said Purushottam Roybarman.
He said that till today Madhavi Biswas is in a state of shock and trauma . “But she will recover soon and tomorrow she will file a formal FIR with police against the miscreants who physically assaulted her after trespassing into her residence at night ; we from the THRO shall extend full co-operation to Madhavi and her son in their fight for justice against such savage attacks” said advocate Purushottam Roybarman.
